About Me.
My name is Samara (pronounced like camera or Tamera) and I’m The Holistic Climber. I’m a Climbing and Wellness Coach, Registered Nurse, and NASM Certified Personal Trainer. I believe that rock climbing is one of the best outlets for physical fitness, relaxing into playing like a child again, and being empowered to achieve things we never thought possible for ourselves. As a Wellness Coach, I specialize in women's health and enhancing physical fitness in people with autoimmune or other related disorders; such as hypothyroidism, Lyme disease, Chronic Epstein-Barre Virus, Long-term COVID, etc. I also have a background in healing trauma.
I started out working as a Mother-Baby Nurse, then I moved to Medical-Surgical and Oncology nursing, and for the past several years I've been working as a Hospice Nurse. As a Registered Nurse, I have experience working with people to find inner peace after experiencing trauma in their lives. Also, going through the COVID pandemic as a Hospice Nurse, I have needed to elicit many tools to combat burnout, which I believe are valuable no matter what your occupation is.
I believe that we can find our truest selves by focusing on…
-
Our Body - being in our body, feeling our body, using this gift to feel healthy and alive
-
Our Mind - overcoming our fears, recognizing negative self-talk and changing patterns that have left us feeling drained or inadequate
-
Our Spirit - challenging limiting beliefs about ourselves and harnessing our inner power
Credentials
Registered Nurse (RN) -
Registered Nurses have a year of prerequisites and then a two year curriculum. All RNs must pass the NCLEX exam to become a Registered Nurse. Registered Nurses have the option to get a Bachelors of Science in Nursing, which is an additional one year of curriculum. Registered Nurses take on more of a management role and are responsible for delegating tasks to LPNs and CNAs, as well as performing specific invasive procedures and administering medications. Alongside Physicians and ARNPs, Registered Nurses educate patients about medication dose and side-effects, nutrition, specific disease processes, etc. Registered Nurses must maintain 8 hours of continuing education annually as part of their practice license. The requirement used to be 45 hours every 3 years, but this reduced in June 2021 during the COVID pandemic, most likely due to staffing shortages.
Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) -
Certified Personal Trainers typically take a nationally recognized certification course which can take as long or as short as one wants depending on their studying schedule, and then they must pass a proctored exam to receive the certificate. They must also complete 20 hours of continuing education credits every 2 years and be CPR certified to renew their certification.
